MOVES IN THE DE-ESCALATION OF THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

26/05/2020

On 2 April we uploaded to our web site a news in which we explained how, at that time, the matter of the moves in relation to the state of alarm over the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain. Removals, like other business activities, depend on each autonomous community, so it is the authorities of those entities that have put the brakes that they understood to be necessary in each case. In this respect, FEDEM (National Federation of Removal Companies) has been fighting to elucidate the sector-specific information and we would like to thank them for their ever tenacious work in seeking to protect the interests of the sector.

Generally speaking, the removals have never been banned, as can be read in the following article articleHowever, they have encountered many barriers to their implementation. It has been necessary to appeal, in the first place, to common sense and to demonstrate with documents when it was a matter of force majeure in addition to, of course, comply with the relevant health and safety measures. It is also true that in some geographical areas there has been greater flexibility than in others, being Madrid one of the most watched cities and where the issuing of permits to occupy public roads for removals had been stopped.

Now that we are with the de-escalation phases, regulations are being relaxed throughout Spain. and the business activity in this sector is gradually becoming more dynamic, in line with the rental and purchase and sale of housing, as well as with the economy in general.

In this respect, the OCEM (Organización Castellana de Empresas de Mudanzas) , has issued a press release of  CETM  (Confederación Española de Transporte de Mercancías) with the regulations established in this respect by the City Council of Madrid. It seems, therefore, that permits for the performance of removal services are made more flexible, although a number of limitations are still set, the first of which is that "In any movement, the following shall be required recommendations and obligations must be respected issued by the health authorities"..

The summer is, under normal conditions, the time of increased activity in the removals sector And now, as the measures are relaxed in the de-escalation phases throughout Spain, business activity in this sector is also picking up, and we hope that it will soon be able to recover from the losses suffered during these months of slowdown.
